Early Fall Road Tripping
We recently social distanced ourselves from everyone and spent a long week in North Carolina enjoying the sound of the waves crashing and the feel of sand between our toes. During an evening of rocking on the porch and devouring Pinterest I stumbled upon an ad for a vintage shop in Hurt, Virginia, a short road trip away from our home in Roanoke! Since I am always on the hunt for new places to discover, I knew this would make a good day outing as Hurt is very close to Alta Vista, another little town with several vintage jewels, and the flea market on Highway 460.
Fast forward about a month and I finally grabbed my opportunity to make this road trip a reality! We packed up our masks, hand sanitizer, fur babies and a new book from Audible and we were on our way. The drive was wonderful, as most drives are during these times, and it was so exciting to see that the actual trip took just a bit over an hour, a big bonus in case I want to visit again while my sweet hubby is fishing, watching football or napping!
This perfect find, nestled amongst the trees and full of treasures, is Virginia Found Goods (www.virginiafoundgoods.com) and if you haven’t discovered this gem for yourself you really need to do a bit of googling and mark a date for a visit!

In general, when I go out to a store, which isn’t often right now, I am all about being able to find exactly what I need where I expect it to be (the good ole get in, get out mentality); however, when shopping vintage I enjoy a bit of a hunt. The thrill of finding that perfect something in the bottom of a bin is intoxicating and Virginia Found Goods does not disappoint. Don’t get me wrong, this isn’t just a heap of stuff you have to clamor over and under to find anything of interest, nope, this is a beautifully curated shop that also happens to have beautifully placed bins and trays and pails of goodies to dig through.
The shop is packed full of gorgeously worn paint and the textures of rust and patina. The sweet scent of dried lavender mingles with the smell of old leather and books and it is indeed intoxicating! Your eyes will bounce from one area to the next and it will be tempting to just allow yourself to roam from place to place in the shop but my advice is to pick your path and stay true so you don’t miss anything that is being offered.
You may be asking, what was my experience like beyond the eye candy and I can honestly say it was amazing! The owner’s son was so very helpful and was able to answer any questions, there is a large variety of items to choose from and I found the pricing was very fair. There were a few items, that I still find myself coveting, that were not for sale but I am very understanding of getting to a place of being ready to release something.
Would I make the drive back? That would be an absolute yes! In fact, I would do this trip each weekend, it’s that close and it’s that good! I will try to pace myself though and attempt not to think about the items I could be missing out on!
With hubby and the fur babies waiting patiently, I made my way to the car with my shopping bags, yes plural, full of delicious goodness. Some items ready to pass along and some that will fill special corners and collections in our home.
It was a good day indeed and one that I hope you will enjoy when visiting Virginia Found Goods in Hurt, Virginia.
Until we meet again…..
